PATHWAYS RESIDENCES FEES AND CHARGES

Funding in aged care allows for a variety of payment options to suit your individual needs and financial circumstances. Many people in Australia receive a form of subsidy from the Commonwealth Government, which is regulated by the Aged Care Act 1997. At Pathways Residences, we offer a range of care and services in which the cost will vary depending on your individual circumstances and preferences.

THE DEFINITION OF THE FEES AND CHARGES

ACCOMMODATION FEES

The Accommodation Fee is the cost of living at Pathways Residences, which includes your room and amenities and living within the common areas of the home. The Accommodation Fee can be made in multiple ways to suit your financial situation.

  1. A Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD) – This is paid in a lump sum amount and returned to the account holder once the resident departs the facility.
  2. A Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) – This accrues daily and is paid periodically, for example monthly. A DAP is calculated from the full cost of the room multiplied by the maximum permissible interest rate (MPIR), which is a government-set interest rate, and then divided by the days of the year.
  3. A Combination Payment – This is a combination payment that includes both a partial lump sum (RAD) and daily payments (DAP).

Note that Pathways Residences is unable to provide any financial advice to suggest which option best suits your needs or suggest financial services to you. We highly recommend that you discuss your personal situation with a qualified and independent financial consultant before making any decision regarding finances for entering an aged care service.

BASIC DAILY CARE FEE

The Basic Daily Care Fee is a contribution towards day-to-day living costs at Pathways Residences. These costs include items such as meals, cleaning, laundry and utilities and are calculated based on 85% of the single person rate of the basic age pension. The government updates this rate each year in line with increases to the age pension.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES FEE

Additional Services are care and services that residential aged care providers can make available to residents in addition to the specified care and services they are required to provide under Schedule 1 of the Quality of Care Principles 2014.

Additional Services can include things like an on-site hairdresser, delivery of a newspaper, Foxtel in your room, or wine with dinner. Fees can also be charged for some outing costs, like transport, entry fees, and purchased food. The fees vary depending on what bundle of services you receive.

EXTRA SERVICES FEE

Extra service fees are what approved providers of residential aged care charge for ‘bundles’ of extra services. Extra Services involve the provision of a significantly higher than average standard of services. This can include:

  • a higher standard of accommodation
  • a wider range of higher-quality food
  • better non-care services such as recreational and personal interest activities.

At Pathways Residences, we have a Luxury Living package designed to suit all manner of interests and preferences. Contact Us to learn more about what these involve and an estimation of costs based on your individual choices from the selection available to you.

MEANS-TESTED CARE FEE

The Means Tested Care Fee is an additional contribution towards the cost of care that some people may be required to pay. Centrelink will work out if you are required to pay this fee based on an assessment of your income and assets, and will advise you of the amount. This is a daily fee.

GOVERNMENT-FUNDED CARE

Government-funded aged care services are regulated by the Australian Government, and the cost of these services is subsidised to make the help you need more affordable. To find out if you are eligible for these services, you will need an assessment which can be done online with My Aged Care or by calling their support services on 1800 200 422.

PRIVATELY FUNDED CARE

Non-government-funded services are not subsidised or regulated by the Australian Government. You will have to pay the full cost to access these services, whatever your care needs or financial situation.
